AB Sugar is one of the world’s largest and most efficient sugar businesses[1], comprising of  several market leading sugar and sugar-related businesses. Each has their own proud history of innovation, growth and long-term commitment to their communities. Although we have a global portfolio, we work together with each of our businesses to do what is right for their local markets.

Sugar is at the heart of what we do, but the sugar making process provides opportunities to do much more than simply manufacture an ingredient. We are an innovative and advanced manufacturer, producing a wide range of co-products – from topsoil to animal feed. We are also an energy and power supplier as well as being part of the wider agri-business value chain. We closely engage with stakeholders from our entire supply chain to ensure we are growing and sourcing sustainable sugar and producing sugar products that are traceable, safe and quality for our customers and consumers worldwide. We have established a strong position within the sugar industry over many years by having the right products in the right markets; with strong operational performances through continuously improving the productivity and efficiencies of our plants and working with our growers to ensure sustainable agricultural practices through on-farm assurance models. To maintain this position into the future, we will continue to improve and innovate to deliver quality products that meet the changing priorities of our customers while being prepared for changes in our market environment by engaging with stakeholders across our operations.

As these changes occur, we need to continue to develop our capability across all aspects of our operations to ensure we have the right people and skills to achieve what we need. This means our people can have a diverse and international career like many of our case studies demonstrate here

Beyond our market environment and as the world around us changes too, we must ensure all future development supports both our long-term success and the sustainabilty of our supply chains and communities where we operate. The delivery of our ‘Global Mind, Local Champions’ sustainability framework is set against three pillars of economic, social and environmental; and this approach is implemented on the ground by each of our businesses. To extend this, in 2018 we launched group-wide commitments within each pillar; to drive forward work currently underway and to set our focus on the coming years. Here are some of the ways in which we are tackling these commitments. 

Within our economic pillar of 'building rural economies', we have committed to building vibrant, diverse value chains that increase the prosperity of our communities. Some ways in which we are taking this forward is through the constant support to our growers and the upskilling of many in some of our operating markets. We promote sustainable agriculture and work to incorporate the latest technology into our supply chains. 

街机电玩捕鱼比赛One of our 'thriving and healthy communities' pillar commitments is to provide access to objective scientific advice on sugar, the diet and health to over 25 million people around the world. To achieve this, we are building on the work underway within our campaign; which now has an international focus since launching in Malawi, Spain and Zambia last year, as well as maintaining its current presence in the UK. Through our campaign website we provide advice on the role sugar can play as part of a healthy, balanced diet based on current scientific evidence and help to bust some of the most common myths about sugar as an ingredient. We plan to extend the campaign to our other operating countries during the course of the year. 

Within our environmental pillar of 'consuming resources responsibly', we have a commitment to reduce our end-to-end supply chain water and CO2 footprints by 30% and one way in which we are working towards this has been through The Innovate Irrigation Challenge街机电玩捕鱼比赛. This pilot initiative issued a global call for ideas to further reduce water losses through irrigation and was set-up in partnership with WaterAid and the Institute of Manufacturing at the University of Cambridge. Following the winner selection process with our prestigious panel of judges, we are currently focusing on developing the winning idea into a feasibility study to understand the true potential within our operations. 

By being open minded to innovation and striving to create more from less; and by working together with our customers, growers, industry peers and key stakeholders, I firmly believe we will achieve our vision to be the world’s leading sugar business and meet our 2030 aspirations.
